Painting Boat Hulls to Protect against Wear and Tear

Travelling with friends or family on a private boat is one of the best things to do during the summer. So obviously, whether you embark on a journey in a nearby sea or river, keeping the boat in tiptop shape will be the key to making the boating experience worthwhile. Hence, there should be enough preparation prior to the trip in order to make it a pleasant activity.

Always keep in mind that boat hulls usually suffer prolonged exposure to water and sea creatures that might compromise the finish. Hence, it is important to apply proper maintenance to avoid deteriorating the wood beneath. If the hull is properly painted, it simply resists cracking, peeling, or bunching at the surface. So before you get into action, make it a point to check the hull for any anomaly.

Initially, remove all traces of wax from fibreglass hulls. A commercial grade solvent will do the trick to clear up this mess. Sand previously painted wooden hulls with a rotating power sander, which is fitted with a 120-grit pad. If the hull requires repair, do it before repainting. Hire a licensed professional to have serious cracks or holes fixed. Just make sure to have proper ventilation when using wax-removing solvents or oil-based paints, as fumes are quite toxic.

Keeping your boat in good condition will guarantee that you are in good hands. So, make it a point to inspect everything inside and out before the big day. Remember that safety is always a priority, particularly when travelling with children and elderly.
