Before you begin the painting process, be sure to wash your car first with soap and water. Washing your car will remove all the dirt on its body and ensure that the paint would have the proper finish. You can use wax or grease to take off the dirt, or opt for mineral spirits to remove particles that are not soluble in water. In discharging all the static charge from your vehicle, you can join the chassis with any grounded object to prevent it from being prone to gathering dust. In addition, make sure that your car is very dry before you start painting.

Keep in mind to tape those parts that you do not want to be painted. Using masking tape to cover these parts would be a good move before you begin performing this task. In applying the primer, make it a point to apply it evenly. You can use sandpaper in scrubbing the primer on the entire surface. A urethane-based paint is ideal for colouring your car and you can apply this with the use of a spray gun. Furthermore, put on three clear coats and let each coat dry for fifteen minutes before putting on the next one.
